4. Cornerstone for the German Stadium
The German Stadium – the world's largest arena, with a capacity of 400,000 spectators – was supposed to rise only a few hundred meters from here. (For comparison, today's Municipal Stadium seats 44,000.) The cornerstone for the German Stadium was laid on September 9, 1937. But work got no further than the excavations, now full of water that seeped in from underground – today, the Silbersee lake, a reminder of this project inspired by Nazi megalomania.
