Presentation of original prints by Dürer at the Albrecht Dürer House

The Original Dürer! series continues with six original prints on the theme of horses. Starting March 31, six copper engravings featuring horse motifs from the The City of Nuremberg's Graphic Collection will be on display. The presentation is available to view until July 16, 2023, in the Graphic Cabinet on the third floor of the Albrecht Dürer House.

Horses are fascinating animals. They served as symbols of power, as working animals, and as a means of transport. Dürer knew how to ride—he may even have owned a horse himself. With a keen and inquisitive eye, he observed horses closely and engaged deeply with their proportions. In his art, Dürer depicted horses frequently, often showing a remarkable unity between human and animal. Influenced by Italian models, his representations of horses in turn had an impact on Italian artists.
