International Council of Museums (ICOM)

The Memorium Nuremberg Trials is a member of the "International Council of Museums" (ICOM).

In cooperation with UNESCO, ICOM was founded as an international non-governmental organization in 1946. Since then, more than 6,500 members from 118 different nations joined. The regional branch ICOM Germany is the largest organization of museums and museum experts in Germany. At the same time, Germany represents the largest national committee within the ICOM.

ICOM sets international standards for research, conservation and communication of natural, cultural and scientific heritage. Museum experts from all over the world exchange views on improvements and challenges in their everyday practice. Global networks and cooperation programs support public awareness of present and future cultural work. As a founding member of "Blue Shield International", ICOM is also committed to protecting museums in armed conflicts, wars and disasters.

As an ICOM member, we commit ourselves to the special task of continuously improving our work, preserving our extensive cultural heritage for future generations and making it accessible to the different demands of our societies.
